Justin came up with a great idea for this year’s play/movie… Shrek 10 – for the 10 grandkids! Since we are getting close to landing in Chicago – I thought everyone could help write the story together. The first thing you need to do when writing a script is to come up with a logline. The logline is a one sentence summary of the story. A good logline will include irony and some sort of hook that makes you want to see it. Here are some examples of the actual loglines for all of the Shrek movies:
The greatest fairy tale never told.
The irony is that it’s never been told even though it’s the greatest and you want to watch it because it’s the greatest!
The Prince isn't charming. The Princess isn't sleeping. The sidekick isn't helping. The ogre is the hero. Fairy tales will never be the same again.
Every line has irony in it – A Prince is supposed to be charming etc… The line about Fairly Tales never being the same again is the hook that makes you want to see it.
He's in for the royal treatment
The irony is that the royal family really doesn’t want him. This is the kind of logline that creates suspense – it makes you wonder – “what do they mean by royal treatment…” and now that you are wondering… you are hooked!
It ain't ogre... til it's ogre
The irony is that it is over! This is the last Shrek movie – and that is the hook. Who doesn’t want to see the last Shrek movie? Everyone will want to see it.
Okay – now that you have some examples – what should our story be about? Can you write a logline – a one sentence description about the story? Write up whatever idea you have in the comments section – even if you don’t think it’s the best idea –still share it. Sometimes other people ideas help our creativity!

Shrek meets the Windy City, although it won't be windy, it'll be sunny and in the mid 80's!
Or we could do "Shrek Makes the City Windy" since Shrek is known for his gas passing and speaking for the Chicago McCartney's, there is no lack of talent when it comes to that.

Shrek leaves Far Far Away for life in the big city of Chicago, but falls into a hole along the way and meets some strange new friends in Wonderland.
Shrek tries to move to Chicago, but gets lost along the way and ends up in a strange, wonderland.
"Don't listen to Donkey!" Shrek's friends tell him to find a new adviser, and just when he does, he wishes he wouldn't have.
