First time since 1959. And, unless Missouri was ranked number 1, the first time a McCartney will ever suit up for the top ranked team in the country, will be Saturday night. GEAUX TC!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oooops! Sorry but the family has another Tiger that played on a #1 ranked team way back in the 60's.
Nov. 19, 1960 - One of the more infamous events in the history of Memorial Stadium took place, as the #1-ranked and undefeated Tigers were upset, 23-7, in the regular-season finale by unranked rival Kansas. The loss spoiled any national championship hopes for the Tigers, who would go on to beat Navy in the Orange Bowl and finish ranked as high as 4th in the UPI poll. It was later discovered that Kansas had used an ineligible player, and the game was officially forfeited by the Jayhawks, giving Mizzou a bittersweet administrative victory.
The center for that team? None other....Bill McCartney, Grandpa! and Grandma was there too cheering for those Tigers! Huge ugly fight broke out on the field after the game involving both teams and fans.

I was actually at that Kansas game! We were so bummed. I can still see all the KU fans waving their arms after they would score. They actually had a great team, John Hadl, Bert Coan and Curtis McClinton in their backfield all went to the NFL. We went to that Orange Bowl game too against Navy. Mizzou held Joe Bellino to minus 7 yards rushing. He won the Heisman that year. It was that trip that made Mom & Pop fall in love with Fla and we moved to Pompano Beach in '62. Well, that's a quick trip down memory lane.
