Michael Mack # 22

Yes – I spelled that right – I’m not talking about Mike Mac, I’m talking about Michael Mack. Michael is 18 years old and went to Egypt with TC and me. He is an African American kid whose family abandoned him four years ago. He had gone to school one morning after eating breakfast with his family only to return to his house that afternoon with everything gone. No furniture, no food, no appliance, no people, no note, no explanation. He called the assistant principal at his school and she came and got him. It took four months for his family to contact him. That assistant principal is one of Robin’s childhood friends. Her and her husband took Michael into their family as their own and he has lived with them ever since. They also have their own child who is 8 years old, so you can imagine the tremendous sacrifice it has been for them to take in Michael.

Michael is a great kid and he is very special to our family. He has overcome a lot over the last four years and has grown tremendously. He got to come to Colorado with me last year to see one of TC’s games, so a few of you have met him. He plays outside linebacker and red zone running back at his high school and was having a great senior season until Friday night. He scored two touchdowns in the first half and then in the 3rd quarter he got hurt. He tore is ACL, MCL, and meniscus. He finds out tomorrow when he will have surgery, but needless to say his senior season is over. He is absolutely devastated because he feels like he’s letting his teammates down. He’s also pretty scared about the idea of surgery. To complicate the issue, Michael is not insured and we are all waiting to find out what portion of the surgery the school district will cover.

Please pray for Michael. We are praying for a successful surgery and that he will work hard to rehab his knee. We are also praying for the financial piece, although we are confident that God will provide – He always does! Pray that God will use Robin and me in some small way to help Michael and his family during this tough time.
